The Big Date

 Chapter34
………..I enter the livingroom and    both the Steven and Christian  gasp. “Our little girl has finally grownup, Chris.” Steven announces  with a  somber  tone. “Our little girl?”
“Pull it together Dad!” I say sarcastically. “Do I look ok?” giving both of them a twirl.
Christian takes my hand and holds it up at shoulder height, “heart stopping gorgeous, Sissy!” There is a catch in his voice
“Ok it has taken me almost an hour to do this makeup so, you better not make me cry.” I warn. I glance at the clock “5:25, he should be here soon he’s never late.” I exclaim and the butterflies in my stomach become taradactles. “I’m so nervous! I feel like that movie Pretty Woman, well, minus the whole hooker thing, hookerella.”  I anxiously start to bounce on the spot fanning my face with my hands.
“Stop you’ll start to sweat, girl!” The door buzzes. “That’s him!” I shriek. Fanning my hands at a rapid pace, I can’t calm myself. Christian grabs both my hand and squeezes them, “You are going to knock him off his feet, Suz. Enjoy yourself and know  we love you.” He says with emotion. Steven come closer to hug us both and then the buzzer rings again. “Oh my God answer it. Let him up, I’m ready.” I say with confidence. “Never mind I’ll get it.”
Happy with myself,   I open the door and  my expectation is dampened by his expression. He’s blank, no smile he’s just staring at me.  My excitement slowly melts into a sick feeling, “Jack, you’re disappointed?” I ask with apprehension in my voice. “No not at all, I’m flabbergasted. Oh my lord, you are a vision of beauty. Dazzling!”
 “ You’re ok with how I look?”
“ Better than ok. Words can not describe how beautiful you are, baby. I’m sorry I won’t be able to take my eyes off you, you’re just too beautiful.” he winks.
“ I  thank  you so, much for everything, I feel like a dream. You certainly know how to knock a girl off her feet.”
“I think the expression is sweep.” He laughs. “Come in  for a moment.” I take his smooth soft hand  and lead him into the livingroom. I’m so excited I’m practically skipping.  Steven and Christian are still standing by the couch.
“I actually brought some champagne,” he holds up a bottle do you have wine glasses?”
“Yes, let me grab them,” Steven runs into the kitchen. Jack pops the cork  and pours the champagne for everyone to have. Then he makes a toast,”Here’s to a wonderful evening.”
“What time is this thing over?” Chris asks. “I mean how late do you think you’ll be? Not that it matters…”
“I promise to have her home early Dad.” Jack comments, smirking. We all burst out laughing and with that the tension is relieved. That’s Dad twice in one night. We head down stairs my hand in Jack’s. I’m still feeling very dream like. When we exit the building Brad gets out of the car and opens our door. Still holding my hand Jack guides me into the back seat of the Spur. I slide over and Jack gets in beside me. Still no letting go of my hand, he reaches into his left inside breast pocket with his right hand and pulls out a black box with a blue ribbon that matches my dress. He lifts my hand, kisses my knuckles and hands me the box. “Open it baby.” He instructs. “Jack what have you done?” I starting to shake, nerves, excitement. Doing as he says I open the box. I’m shocked! It’s a platinum diamond bracelete.  It’s exquisite, 12 imperfect circles about the size of a quarter each one of the circles are  encrusted with 24 various sized diamonds. Each circle has two diamonds one to link to the next circle and the second to give balance to the circle. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s memerizing. “It’s call rainfall. It reminded me of our bike ride together to Whistler and getting caught in the rain. I wasn’t sure how it would look with the  dress but, I’d say it goes perfectly. I have a little taste, wouldn’t you say?”
“It’s beautiful, Jack.” Tears threaten my eyes feeling slightly over whelmed  I whisper to him,   I can’t  accept this.” I threaten. His eye brows come down and he frowns at me.
“What?” he questions. Oh god he’s insulted.
“I mean, it’s lovely it’s just that, I can’t accept something so extravagent. You shouldn’t spend so much on me, it’s too much.” His index finger comes to my mouth in order to shhh me. Oh shit I’ve done it now.
“First of all, I bought this for you my girlfriend as a gift, you can and will accept it.”  His tone is sharp. “Secondly if you don’t like something you just say, Jack I don’t like this, don’t tell me it’s too extravagant, I’ll decide if it’s too extravagant.” His decibel is increasing , “  And  thirdly I will decide what I should buy for you, whether it’s a bracelet, a dress or a car or a trip to New York. I make enough that I can afford nice things and baby you should be showered in lavish gifts. No one deserves it more than you. Are you kidding me, you silly woman!”
“I’m sorry. I love it. Thank you.” A tear starts to trickle down my cheek.
“Hey no tears, I want this to be a night to remember  and I don’t want tears to the thing we remember.” He lifts my chin and kisses my lips. “You compel me to please you, Susan. Please accept this gift, it shows the world  your mine and only mine.” He has an evil grin on his mouth along with a little of my lip stick color.
“Am I ruining our night?”
”No”
I run my thumb over his lips, “My color doesn’t look good on  you.” His mouth turns up at the corners giving me the most beautifully fulfilling smile. “I love it and you, Jack. I accept your very extravagant gift. You are too good to me, do you know that you crazy man? Today has been like a fairy tale.”
He reaches down grasp my hand and kisses the back of my  fingers, “ I want your life to be a fairy tale.”
